The Colorado College men's team came within inches of defeating No. 10 Kenyon College on Friday night, but the Lords scored twice in a span of 12:01 midway through the second half to escape with a 2-1 victory at Mavec Field.
Â
Jackson Silverstein gave the Tigers a 1-0 lead in the 54th minute when he found the net from the middle of the box off
Sam Bermingham's cross from the right side.
Â
Silverstein, who has a point in all three games this season, took over the team lead with six points and is tied with
Kiran Singh for first with a pair of goals.
Â
Kenyon leveled the score almost eight minutes after Silverstein scored on a goal by Atli Hrafnkelsson.
Â
Sam Carson struck for what proved to be the game winner late in the 74th minute.
Â
Keller Mochel kept the final margin at one when he denied Max Taylor's penalty kick with a little more than a minute to play.
Palguta's Perspective
- "Overall we played well, but we didn't handle the 15-minutes that followed our goal well enough," head coach Scott Palguta said. "We needed to keep our foot on the gas and not allow them to get back on top of us like they did."
Key Moment
- Early in the second half, CC nearly broke through off a Griffin Meyer corner kick, but Aidan Longhurst's header caromed off the post and that proved to be the difference in the game.
