No. 9 St. Cloud State Rallies to Down Tigers in Overtime

Sam Hentges scored two goals, including a power-play goal 1:37 into overtime Friday night, to lift No. 9 St. Cloud State to a come-from-behind 4-3 victory over Colorado College at Baxter Arena.

The Tigers held a 3-2 lead late in the third period, but Nick Perbix scored from the left circle with 1:21 remaining in regulation to force the extra period. After CC's Zach Berzolla was whistled for slashing in overtime, Hentges took a pass from Perbix and sent a one-timer past CC goalie Dominic Basse.

Colorado College (2-3-1) jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first period and things looked promising for its third consecutive victory.

Logan Will opened the scoring just 2:19 into the contest with his second goal in as many games. Tyler Coffey gathered the puck in the neutral zone and sent a pass off the boards to Will, who skated down the left side and beat SCSU goalie Joey Lamoreaux on his short side for a 1-0 lead.

Josiah Slavin found himself on the scoring end of a 2-on-1 with Grant Cruikshank to give the Tigers a 2-0 advantage at the 7:13 mark. The play started with a blocked shot by Jack Millar and the puck found Cruikshank's stick to start the odd-man rush.

Cruikshank then scored his fourth goal in the last three games at the 12:03 after Patrick Cozzi stole the puck behind the SCSU net and found the captain all by himself in front. At that point, Lamoreaux was pulled in favor of Jaxon Castor.

SCSU (5-3-0) got on the board as Hentges placed a wrister from the left point past a screened Basse with 3:16 remaining in the opening frame to make it 3-1.

Slavin saw the best chance in the scoreless second period, ringing a shot off the pipe with 6:40 remaining in the frame.

Veeti Miettinen cut the CC lead to 3-2 at the 5:10 mark of the third period by poking home a rebound on the power play.

The Tigers return to action on Saturday, Dec. 19, with a rematch against Miami University, beginning at 7:00 p.m. (MT).
