Tigers Fall to St. Cloud State in Overtime

Jack Ahcan scored 31 seconds into overtime to give St. Cloud State a 3-2 victory over Colorado College Friday night at the Broadmoor World Arena.

Ahcan put the game-winner past CC goalie Matt Vernon after Jack Poehling sent the puck towards the net and it deflected off Tiger defenseman Connor Mayer across the crease. Ahcan was there at the right side of the net for his sixth goal of the season.

After a scoreless first period, each team put two in the net during the second.

Bryan Yoon opened the scoring with his first goal of the season at the 2:12 mark of the middle frame. Troy Conzo cleanly won a faceoff in the SCSU zone and the puck went back to Yoon, who sent a wrister from the high slot past David Hrenak.

The Tigers (8-16-1, 3-13-1 NCHC) took a 2-0 lead at the 8:47 mark and Conzo collected his second assist of the night when he found Chris Wilkie open behind the Husky defense for a clean breakaway. Wilkie scored his NCHC-high 18th of the season.

The Huskies (11-12-4, 8-9-0 NCHC) cut the lead in half less than a minute later when Ahcan sent a pass from the left circle to the far side of the net and Chase Brand was there to tip it past Vernon. Jack Poehling evened things up at the 12:18 mark of the second, finishing off a 2-on-1 with his brother, Nick.

Neither team scored in the third period despite each having a couple of power plays. The Tigers had a man advantage opportunity with 2:07 left after a cross-checking call to Clark Kuster, but Hrenak saved all six shots on the power play to send the game to overtime.

What Head Coach Mike Haviland Said
"We've got to keep the momentum after being up 2-0."

"Verny was good all night and our PK was solid. They're a good team. We need to grab the momentum back. We got it back a little in the third."

"It was good to see Wilkie score, but other guys have to finish their chances."
