The Colorado College women's soccer team showed again that there is very little difference between any of the 12 teams in the Mountain West, but the Tigers saw their three-game unbeaten streak come to an end with a 2-0 setback against conference co-leader University of New Mexico.
The difference in tonight's game proved to be senior goalkeeper Emily Johnson, who finished with five saves for UNM.
The Logos struck for a pair of goals midway through the second half to snap a scoreless deadlock that lasted for more than 65 minutes.
New Mexico broke through in the 67th minute when Jadyn Edwards settled a long pass in the 18-yard box and slipped the ball past CC goalkeeper
Taryn Benham, who had come off her line to challenge.
The Lobos added an insurance goal 2:28 later when Molly Myers scored on a shot from the top left corner of the box.
CC had a chance to get on the board late in the 75th minute, but Johnson made a diving save at the left post on
Kiley Suter's header from the center of the box.
With seven minutes remaining, Johnson steered aside a crossing shot from
Coley Lyubenko, which proved to be the last shot of the game for the Tigers.
The Lobos finished the game with a 14-12 advantage in total shots, while Colorado College had a 5-4 edge in shots on goal.
New Mexico won five corner kicks, while the Tigers produced three. Â Â
