Jami Krannila scored with 1:51 remaining in overtime to lift No. 1-ranked St. Cloud State past Colorado College, 3-2, Friday night at Robson Arena.
Â
Krannila scored off his own rebound from the right circle after taking the puck from behind his own net and skating down the right side during the 3-on-3 overtime period. CC goalie
Dominic Basse saved Krannila's initial shot, but the puck went right back to him, who put it over Basse's shoulder.
Â
It was Krannila's second goal of the night and sixth of the season. Seamus Donohue posted his third assist of the game on the play.
Â
Krannila sent the game to overtime with a power-play goal at the 15:35 mark of the third period to even the score at 2-2. Donohue found him at the right circle and he fired a rocket past Basse.
Â
The Tigers (2-5-2, 0-1-0 NCHC) had rallied to take a 2-1 lead earlier in the final period when
Brett Chorske scored his second goal in his second career game, poking home his own rebound on the power play from the right side of the net past Husky goalie David Hrenak (32 saves).
Â
Micah Miller opened the scoring at the 7:36 mark of the first period when he took the puck at center ice, skated around a CC defender and beat Basse from the right circle.
Â
"We played well tonight," head coach
Kris Mayotte said. "I thought we started well, they put us on our heels from the 15 to 8 minute mark, but after their goal, I thought we responded really well and got into our game."
Â
Jordan Biro evened things up with his team-high fourth goal of the season at the 6:39 mark of the second period. Biro knocked a defender off his feet behind the SCSU net, took a couple steps out from the board and sent the puck Hrenak.
Â
Biro finished the game with a goal and an assist, while
Bryan Yoon also had a helper for the Tigers. Basse finished the game with 26 saves.
Â
"I thought we were the better team for the majority, if not all, of the second period," Mayotte said. "We took a bad penalty and we can't give that team free chances. Our expectation is that we are going to play well. That is our standard."
Â
Miller led all players with five shots, while
Tyler Coffey and
Connor Mayer paced the Tigers with four apiece. The Tigers outshot St. Cloud State (7-2-0, 1-0-0), 34-29, including a 10-5 advantage in the third period.
Â
The two teams will battle again on Saturday, Nov. 6, beginning at 6 p.m.
