Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | Athletic Communications

Colorado College Falls to No. 2 Trinity at SCAC Men’s Soccer Championship

For 42 minutes on Friday afternoon, it appeared that the Colorado College men's soccer was going to pull off an upset of No. 2 Trinity University in a semifinal game of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship and play its way into the NCAA Tournament.

First-year forward Gabe Kellman gave the Tigers a 1-0 lead in the 21st minute, then a little more than 10 minutes later freshman midfielder Vincent Luglio doubled CC's lead with an unassisted goal.

Luglio became the first Colorado College freshman to score 11 goals since Matt Fechter in 2009, while his 25 points are the most for a Tiger since Max Grossenbacher produced 27 as a senior in 2015.

However, just when a two-goal halftime lead seemed destined to happen, Trinity's Michael Meese struck for a pair of goals in less than a minute to level the score after 45 minutes, and Colorado College was unable to re-claim the momentum.

Meese gave TU its first lead 53rd minute, and after Joseph Kuri made the score 4-0, he added one more to cap his-four-goal performance.

Trinity finished the game with a 15-9 advantage in total shots and an 8-4 edge in corner kicks.

TU earned the SCAC's automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament thanks to the University of St. Thomas's 1-0 victory over Southwestern University in the second semifinal. The Celts are ineligible to compete in the national tournament while they complete their transition to Division III.
