Colorado College Dominates in 2-1 victory Over Wyoming

The Colorado College women's soccer team turned in a commanding performance in every phase of the game and stayed unbeaten with a 2-1 victory over the University of Wyoming on Monday afternoon at Stewart Field.

The Tigers broke through in the 17th minute when junior forward Jacqui Hand worked a give-and-go with junior midfielder Abby Hubbard, stepped around a Cowgirl defender on the left side of the box, and ripped a shot into the upper right corner for her second goal of the season.

"It was something I had been practicing, cutting in on my right foot and hitting that top corner," Hand said. "It was really good to hit that one home."

Kiley Suter gave the Tigers a 2-0 lead in the 56th minute when she scored on a header from the back post off of a Hailee Rasmussen corner kick. It proved to be the second game winner of Suter's career.

"It was an awesome ball by Hails," Suter said. "I just ended up staying back post. It just hit the top of my head and went in. Getting a win against Wyoming is huge."

Wyoming got one back in the 71st minute when Indianna Asimus got on the end of an Amber Vokoun direct kick from 23 yards out on the left side and scored on a header from the center of the box.

After the Cowgirls cut their lead in half, the CC defense did not allow a shot during the final 19 minutes.

"It was a good team win today," head coach Geoff Bennett said. "Start to finish, I thought we played well and dictated the rhythm of the game. What I like most was the fact that we didn't blink when they scored on a set piece. We kept our composure and closed out the game."

Colorado College finished with a 17-4 advantage in total shots and a 5-1 edge in corner kicks.

The two sides will go at it again on Friday, March 26, in Laramie.
