Hand, Forseth Lead Tigers to 1-1 Draw with Utah State

Jacqui Hand scored her third goal of the season and Greta Forseth had three saves as the Colorado College women's soccer team tied Utah State, 1-1, Friday night at Stewart Field.

The Tigers played to a 1-1 draw for the second consecutive game and posted a 1-0-1 record against the Aggies, including a 2-1 overtime victory in Logan, Utah, on March 21.

"This one hurts," head coach Geoff Bennett said. "We wanted three points and unfortunately had to settle for one, but there are tons of bright spots."

Utah State's Kami Warner opened the scoring in the 14th minute. She stole the ball from a CC player and scored from 22 yards out over the outstretched arms of Forseth.

The Tigers responded later in the first half when Hand scored in the 27th minute. Camille Weaver's free kick from midfield took a high bounce and Hand headed the ball over Utah State keeper Diera Walton.

Colorado College held an 8-3 advantage in total shots and 4-1 in shots on goal in the first 45 minutes.

Forseth made her first save of the night a big one, kicking away an attempt by Warner, who had an open look from the top of the box. Each team mustered just one attempt the rest of regulation.

The Tigers kept possession of the ball for the majority of the first overtime, but the only shot on goal came from Utah State's Taylor Garza-Freeman with two minutes remaining in the frame.

Forseth made her best save of the night with five minutes left in the second overtime, barely getting a hand on a blast from Marli Niederhauser that was heading for the upper right corner. Forseth is now 2-0-2 this season.

The Tigers outshot Utah State, 19-8, in total shots and 5-4 in shots on goal.

"We generated 19 shots and nine corners tonight," Bennett said. "We are right there, I am just waiting for all the pieces to come crashing together. Hopefully that comes Sunday against a very good New Mexico team."
