The Colorado College women's soccer team is hoping a change of scenery is what the doctor ordered to break its scoring drought when the Tigers play host to Cal Poly in its home opener on Sunday, Sept. 5. CC and the Mustangs will meet on Stewart Field at Noon MT.

Colorado College is 0-3-0 after dropping a 3-0 result at Villanova last Friday afternoon. Cal Poly leveled its record at 2-2-0 after defeating the University of Montana (2-1) and Sacramento State (4-2) at home last week. This week marks the first time this season the Mustangs will play on the road.

The Mustangs prevailed in the only previous meeting between the programs, posting a 1-0 victory over CC on Sept. 20, 2009, at Stewart Field.

All-time, Colorado College is 25-9-2 in home openers. Since
Geoff Bennett took the reins of the program in 2004, the Tigers are 13-3-1 in home openers. During the 2020-21 spring season, CC defeated the University of Wyoming, 2-1, in its first home game at Stewart Field. In 2019, the Tigers opened the traditional fall season with a 2-1 victory against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, 2-1, at Washburn Field.

Colorado College averaged 0.33 goals and conceded 2.33 during its first three games. Sophomore forward

Taryn Benham, a graduate transfer from Northern Arizona University, played every minute in goal and owns a 2.27 goals-against average along with a .417 saves percentage.

Cal Poly scores and concedes an average of 1.75 goals per game. Sophomore defender Kylie Rojas, one of six players who have scored a goal, leads the Mustangs with three points. Sophomore forward Nikki Trucco, who leads the team with nine shots, and junior midfielder Sidra Bugsch, who is tied for second with Rojas at six shots, each have found the net once. Junior Ava Dorvillier has played all 360 minutes in goal and has a 1.75 GAA and a .682 saves percentage.

Next week, Colorado College plays its final non-conference road game on Saturday, Sept. 11, when the Tigers trek to the Pacific Northwest to face the University of Portland in a game that starts at 8 p.m. MT. The following week, CC plays its final non-conference games against Arizona State University and Southern Utah University on Friday and Sunday, Sept. 17 at 19, at Stewart Field.
