Brandon Koch scored a pair of power-play goals and Chris Hedden added three assists to lead Air Force past Colorado College, 6-3, Saturday night at Cadet Ice Arena.
Â
The Tigers chased the scoreboard all night as Will Gavin opened the scoring for Air Force just 2:42 into the contest. After a CC turnover at its own blue line, Clayton Consentino found Gavin, who finished the 2-on-1 rush by beating Tiger goalie
Matt Vernon.
Â
Stanley Cooley evened things up at the 5:20 mark when he took a pass from behind the net by Gleb Veremyev and put the puck past Air Force goalie Guy Blessing.
Â
However, Air Force retook the lead just 31 seconds later when Mason McCormick buried a shot from right in front of the net. The Tigers tied the game again 33 seconds after that goal when
Logan Will scored his third of the game with a wrist shot from the left circle.
Â
Air Force took the lead for good with its first of three power-play goals at the 14:03 mark when Andrew DeCarlo collected the puck after Vernon saved a shot by Parker Brown and deposited it for a 3-2 advantage.
Â
Brian Adams put the home team up by two with another rebound goal at 3:36 of the second period.
Â
Tommy Middleton cut the Falcon lead to one with his first goal of the year at 4:23 of the middle frame.
Noah Prokop took a shot from the left boards and the puck hit Middleton's stick as he was falling down with an Air Force defender and it flipped in the air over Blessing.
Â
The Tigers took a couple of penalties later in the period and Koch took full advantage on both of them. He scored from the top of the slot at the 7:29 mark, then connected on a wrister from the left circle at 9:49 for the game's final goal to make it 6-3.
Â
Special teams were as evident Saturday as they were Friday night in CC's 8-0 victory at Ed Robson Arena. The Tigers, who were 4-for-9 on the power play Friday, went 0-for-5 on Saturday, while the Falcons scored on three of their five man-up opportunities tonight.
Â
CC held a 29-22 advantage in shots. Vernon finished with 16 saves, while Blessing had 26.
Â
The Tigers open NCHC play next weekend against nationally-ranked Minnesota Duluth, Nov. 4-5, at Robson Arena.
