Tigers Post Most Wins in a Season in 41 Years; Clinch Third at SCACs

The Colorado College men's tennis team captured its 13th victory, the most in one season in 41 years, with a 5-1 victory Sunday over the University of St. Thomas in the third-place match of the 2022 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship in Kerrville, Texas.

The Tigers finished the 2021-22 campaign with a 13-10 record, posting more wins in any season since the 1981 team went 20-7. The third-place finish is the best since also finishing third in 2016.

Our guys did a great job over the weekend," head coach Anthony Weber said. "I thought they played Southwestern really tough yesterday, then bounced back to take care of St. Thomas today."

The Tigers jumped out to an early 2-1 lead after the doubles matches. Alex Kley and Lucas Pastor won the No. 2 match, 8-2, over Tyler Head and Jason Clark, then Jacob Adas and Nate Beerman followed suit with an 8-5 triumph over Carson Steele and Jeremiah Hoover.

Despite having to pull No 2 singles player Andrew Kaelin from the lineup due to an injury suffered during the No. 1 doubles match, the Tigers rolled and easily won the three singles matches needed for the team victory

Kley (No. 5) and Adas (No. 6) each won his match, 6-0, 6-0, then Beerman clinched the match for CC with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Steele at the No. 4 spot.

"Our depth really sealed the deal for us in singles," Weber added. "Alex and Jacob won quickly at 5 and 6, and Beerman played great to clinch at No. 4."

Colorado College won the first set in the other three singles matches, which were pulled after Beerman's victory.
