Colorado College Ties No. 15 St. Thomas in Conference Opener

Colorado College tied the No. 15 University of St. Thomas Celts, 1-1, on Friday at Stewart Field in the SCAC Opener.

"Two good teams, duking it out," coach Palguta said. "[St. Thomas] is undefeated for the reason, top of the league, top of the region, national rank and they're good players. Played a good team and we don't like ties but today we'll have to accept it and move on."

Freshman Jasper Broad made the start in goal for the Tigers and made 6 saves in the physical matchup against the Celts. St. Thomas outshot the Tigers 20-10 and 6-2 in corner kicks.

The Celts struck first with an unassisted goal by Ian Alvarez in the 11th minute.

Several young players played increased minutes in the match on Friday as a result of Sajji Singh and Kevin Peterson being unavailable for the match. Jake Zaas, Alex Meyerhoff, Will Bavier and Connor Webster all made an impact for the Tigers.

Meyerhoff scored the lone Tiger goal, unassisted, in the 18th minute to earn CC the tie.

Both the Tigers and the Celts traded fouls and yellow cards for the remainder of the match, but neither team was able to connect with the back of the net.

CC returns to action on Sunday against Centenary College at Stewart Field.
