Tigers and Lions Battle to 2-2 Draw

The Colorado College women's soccer team wrapped up its four-match homestand with a 2-2 draw with Texas A&M – Commerce Sunday afternoon at Stewart Field.

Lily Byrne and Jordan Darrow each scored her first goal of the season for the Tigers, who went 2-1-1 during the homestand and are 3-2-1 this season.

CC surrendered the first goal for the fifth straight match, as the Lions got on the scoreboard for the first time this season with an own goal in the 12th minute. Karalie Morrison sent a crossing pass into the box and the ball hit the leg of Tiger defender Josie Morales and into the net.

The Tigers responded and evened the score when Lily Byrne notched her first goal of the season with a penalty kick in the 25th minute after the Lions were whistled for a handball in the box.

Jordan Darrow notched her first tally of the campaign and gave CC a 2-1 lead in the 76th minute. Gracie Huebner streaked down the right side, cut in to the middle and fired a left-footed shot that A&M-Commerce keeper Gillian McKenzie knocked down but could not corral. The ball squirted out towards the top of the box and Darrow deposited it for her second career goal.

The Tigers held onto the lead until the 87th minute, when the Lions' Mindy Shoffit rose above everyone in the box and headed a corner kick from Ashley Campuzano past CC's backup keeper, Zahra Cheeseman, who replaced starter Ally Wakeman at halftime for the fourth consecutive match.

Colorado College held an 18-12 advantage in total shots and an 8-4 lead in shots on target. Byrne, Huebner and Kaelin Woodruff led the Tigers with SOG apiece. Wakeman made one save in the first half, while Cheeseman had a pair in the final 45 minutes.

The Tigers head back out on the road for a game against Creighton University on Friday, Sept. 9, in Omaha beginning at 3:30 p.m. (MT).
