Tigers Run Over Wilmington at ONU Invitational

Freshman Wyatt Linggi scored the first goal of his career and added an assist to lead the Colorado College men's soccer team to a 3-1 victory over Wilmington College in the first game of the Ohio Northern Invitational in Ada, Ohio.

The Tigers improved to 2-1 this season in advance of playing 13th-ranked Ohio Northern on Saturday.

Alexander Ward put the Tigers on the board by converting a penalty kick in the sixth minute after Wilmington's Eli Eyrich was called for a handball in the box. Ward's sent his shot right down the middle past Quaker keeper Thomas Grimes.

The Tigers attempted four other shots on goal in the first half, all saved by Grimes, while CC goalie Jasper Broad faced just one shot on target in the initial 45 minutes.

Wilmington's Brady Vilvens evened the score with a PK of his own after he was taken down in the box by Broad.

Colorado College retook the lead in the 56th minute when freshman Wyatt Linggi scored the first goal of his career. Teddy Libby's shot from the top of the box was blocked, but Linggi headed the ball to himself and placed a shot past Grimes.

The Tigers added an insurance goal as freshman Zeke Lubin scored his first career tally in the 88th minute. Lubin took a crossing pass from Oliver Ramirez and cleanly beat Grimes. Linggi recorded his assist by sending an initial pass to Ramirez.

CC outshot Wilmington, 20-7, in total shots and held a 10-3 advantage in shots on target. Ward, Libby and Ramirez each had a match-high three shots, with Ramirez sending all of his on goal.

"This was our best performance to date," head coach Scott Palguta said. "We were on the front foot for longer stretches of this game and were rewarded with a few goals. The highlight for me, though, was finally watching Charlie Wagner in a CC uniform. He's been through so much with his ACL injuries. His presence and composure gave the team a big lift today."

The Tigers and Ohio Northern battle on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. (MT).
