The Tigers battled to a 0-0 draw against the Aztecs on Thursday night at Stewart Field. Colorado College had numerous chances down the stretch against San Diego State to go ahead, but none, consequently, found the back of the net.
"I'm glad we got a result today," head coach
Keri Sanchez said. "I think we showed who we can be, so I'm glad the team has re-founded their identity and kept attacking. We had a lot of chances in the second half."
CC collected a point in the conference standings and moved to 1-3-1 in Mountain West play.
Goalkeeper
Regan Wallace collected her second shutout of the season and third of her career. The California native finished the night with four saves.
Sophomore
Kendall Memoly led the team with four shots (two on target) as the Tigers outshot the Aztecs 14-10 (5-4 on goal). Senior
Brett Tsamasfyros followed suit with three shots (one on target).
Tsamasfyros had the best look in the game in the 87th minute as the clock was winding down.
Evie Biggs fed Brett in front of the net, and she had a one-on-one chance with the goalkeeper. Tsamasfryos aimed low towards the bottom left corner, but SDSU's Alexa Madueno barely made the save, keeping it a 0-0 game.
Three of Memoly's four shots came in the first half. The Laguna Hills, Calif. native recorded her first in the 10th minute after
Finley Schoenbeck recorded the first shot of the game a minute earlier.
Her second came in the 24th minute but missed over the crossbar. Tsamasfyros lasered a shot in from about 30 yards out but nailed the top woodwork and bounced over the net. CC outshot its adversary 7-5 in the first half.
In the latter half, the Tigers took back-to-back shots in the 49th and 50th minutes, including Gracie Hueber's attempt at the net that was saved.
CC had more shots on net in the 68th, 78th and 87th. Defensively, the Tigers limited the Aztecs to only one shot on target in the half.
"I just think we had great confidence tonight," Sanchez said. "We talked about getting the other team to turn and chase toward their own net. We did a good job of making runs forward and completing passes today."
The Tigers host New Mexico on Sunday at 1 p.m. MT. On Thursday night, the Lobos defeated Air Force by a final score of 2-1 at the United States Air Force Academy.
