CC Heads To Nevada To Take On UNLV

The Colorado College women's soccer team takes its first road trip of the Mountain West schedule this week to Nevada to take on UNLV and the University of Nevada. The Tigers are seventh in the conference standings after going 1-1 this weekend.

Last Time Out

The Tigers opened conference play with a 2-1 win over the University of Wyoming on Thursday, Sept. 26th. CC scored two goals early and held off the Cowgirls the rest of the day.

Senior Brett Tsamasfyros scored her fifth goal of the season and extended her scoring streak to three straight games. Sophomore Kendall Memoly dished out the eventual game-winner, her third goal of the season.

On Sunday, Sept. 29, the Tigers fell to Colorado State 1-0 and were limited to only three shots. Goalkeeper Regan Wallace made three saves, but the Rams scored after 62 minutes of scoreless scoreless soccer.

Efficient Scoring

Despite being 12th in the Mountain West with 8.18 shots per game, the Tigers are second in the Mountain West and 21st in the nation in shot efficiency with a .533 shot-on-goal percentage. The Tigers aren't producing an enormous number of shots this season, but when they do, it's almost always on target and ends up in the back of the net.

Tsamasfyros is fifth in the conference with a .500 SOG percentage.

The San Manteo, CA native isn't having a quiet season. She recordeda the first three-game scoring streak for CC since the 2014 season. Brett leads the team with five goals during the streak, including her first career hat trick against UC Santa Barbara.

Tsamasfyros is third in the conference, with an average of 0.56 goals per game, and tied for fourth in total goals.

CC has six goal scorers this season, including four with multiple goals. The team came into the season with just three players who had scored multiple career goals.

Defensive Improvements

Sophomore goalkeeper Regan Wallace continues to provide stability for the Tigers in net. CC is fifth in the conference in saves and has limited its opponents to a 0.369 shot-on-goal percentage.

Wallace finished her freshman campaign first in the conference in total saves but is fourth through the first 11 games this year. Less saves and still, a low goals-against average speaks to the stronger defense the Tigers have created in 2024.

In 2023, CC surrendered 2.72 goals per game. This season, the defense is surrendering only 1.36 goals per contest.

Scouting The Opposition

UNLV jumped ahead of the Tigers in the conference standings after going 1-1 in its Mountain West opening games. The Rebels downed New Mexico 3-0 on Thursday but fell to San Diego State 0-2 on Sunday.

Sophomore midfielder Trinity Buchanan leads the team with 10 points (4g, 2a). She put up her second multi-goal game on Thursday against the Lobos.

Nevada is 12th in the Mountain West with a 2-9-0 (0-2-0) record. The Wolfpack is on a nine-game skid after winning its first two games of the year against Kansas State and Southern Utah. Most recently, Nevada dropped a pair of contests at San Diego State (5-0) and New Mexico (5-2).

Up Next

Upon returning from the desert valley of Nevada, the Tigers will play host to San Diego State and New Mexico. CC will take on the Aztecs on Thursday, Oct. 10, at 6 p.m. MT and the Lobos on Sunday, Oct. 13, at 1 p.m.
