Tigers Down Centenary Behind Goals From Linggi & Ramirez

The Colorado College men's soccer team took care of business and put up 36 shots against the Gents of Centenary College on Sunday at Stewart Field. The Tigers won 2-0 behind goals from Wyatt Linggi and Oliver Ramirez to remain undefeated at home and conference play.

CC scored 36 shots against Centenary, the second-most this season and the most since the season opener against Fontbonne when the Tigers dished out 37. Of those, 18 were on target.

Teddy Opler led the team with six shots (three on net), followed by Curtis Hale, who had five. CC had 21 shots in the first half alone, nine of which were on net.

After the first 11 minutes passed, the Tigers' first shot on net came in the 12 minutes when Jack Hilliard aimed for the top left corner. However, Sebastian Lutin made the save for Centenary. The freshman goalkeeper finished the game with 16 saves.

Dylan Stapley recorded his first shot a minute later, but it was also saved.

Centenary's first shot on goal was in the 14th minute, but goalkeeper Spencer Besselaar made the save. Besselaar finished the game with two saves and recorded his fourth shutout.

CC got off seven more shots on target before the halftime break; all were saved, and despite the 21-1 shot differential, the Tigers and Gents were knotted at 0-0 at the half.

The second half was highlighted by CC's set pieces and chances during the corner kicks. The Tigers had six corners in the second, three of which resulted in scoring opportunities. Hale had multiple headers that were either saved or off the crossbar.

After 24 shots, CC finally broke the tie when Rex Karjian fed a beautiful ball into the box that Oliver Ramirez headed onto the foot of Linggi. Linggi laced a shot into the back left side of the net to give the Tigers the 1-0 lead.

Linggi's third goal of the season and the sophomore currently leads the team with nine points (3g,3a). Ramirez is tied with Linggi nine points after recording his first assist and fourth goal of the season.

Ramirez's goal came in the 73rd minute after he snuck past the Gents' defense, and Alex Meyerhoff fed the junior, who beat the last defender and goalkeeper for the goal.

The lead grew to 2-0 with the goal, and the Tigers would ride out the game from there to improve to 8-1-2 (3-0-0) in the season. It was CC's third consecutive shutout win. In the last four meetings against the Gents, the Tigers have outscored Centenary 17-0.

The Tigers will be on the road for the next four games, starting with a trip to Austin, Tex. against Concordia (TX) on Oct. 11. CC will then travel to Abilene to battle McMurry on Oct. 13.
