No. 5 Colorado College was downed by St. Thomas 2-0 in the semifinals of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament. The No.4 seeded Celts put up two goals in the later minutes of each half as Daniel Castro scored both goals for UST.
CC outshot UST 13-10, including 4-3 shots on goal. Castro scored in the 36th minute by finding the back of the net on a free kick. Goalkeeper
Alex Wolter couldn't make a diving save to his right as the ball struck the top left corner, and UST took the 1-0 lead.
Zeke Lubin led the team with three shots,
Remi Maher finished with two shots (both on goal).
Dylan Stapley is the final Tiger to finish with multiple shots. Wolter made a save in his 90 minutes in net.
Down at the break 1-0, the Tigers tried to respond in the the 70th minute, logging their first shot on target of the half when Stapley aimed for the bottom left corner but it was saved.
Rex Karjian had the final shot on goal in the 80th minute, but Christo Gayoso also stopped it.
UST closed the game with a second Castro goal in the 87th minute off a penalty kick after
Curtis Hale got called for a foul inside the CC box.
Hale, Stapley, and Karjian played 90 minutes, while
Will Bavier played 72 on the pitch.
The Tigers will await a potential at-large bid for the 2024 NCAA Tournament. The selection show is on Monday, Nov. 11 at 11:30 am MT and can be viewed at NCAA.com.
Last season, the Tigers made a run after falling in the SCAC Tournament and reached the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament.
