The Colorado College women's soccer team will attempt to go 2-0 to start Mountain West play on Sunday, Sept. 27, when Colorado State visits Stewart Field. The Tigers are attempting to go 2-0 to start conference play for the first time since 2015. Both CC and CSU won their respective games on Thursday.
Last Time Out
CC improved to 5-0-1 at Stewart Field with a 2-1 victory over the University of Wyoming on Thursday night. The Tigers scored two first-half goals and fought off the potential Cowgirl comeback.
Senior
Brett Tsamasfyros collected her fifth goal in the last three games in the sixth minute when
Evie Biggs found her on a great pass; the assist was Biggs' first of her career. Sophomore
Kendall Memoly increased the lead to two goals in the 13th minute, her third goal of the year.
The CC defense shut out the Cowgirls in the second half despite facing 10 shots. Goalkeeper
Regan Wallace made five saves and earned her fourth win of the year.
The victory was CC's first non-COVID conference opener victory since 2019.
Dead Accurate
The Tigers had only six shots against Wyoming on Thursday, but five were on target. Through 10 games this season, CC is 14th in the nation in shot accuracy and second in the Mountain West with a .552 shot accuracy.
Tsamasfyros is sixth in the conference with a .526 shot-on-goal percentage, and freshman
Finley Schoenbeck leads all CC players with at least six shots and a .833 SOG percentage.
Three In A Row
Tsamasfyros continued her hot streak with another goal against Wyoming, her third straight game with a goal. It's the first individual three-game goal streak for a CC player since 2015, when Sarah Schweiss scored in four consecutive games.
Brett was named the Mountain West Offensive Player of the Week two weeks ago for her three-goal performance against UC Santa Barbara. She scored again the following game against Buffalo, then her fifth of the season against Wyoming on Thursday.
The last time a Tiger scored more than five goals in a season was in 2019 when Jacqui Hand dished out nine.
Scouting The Opposition
Colorado State and CC moved up to third and fourth in the Mountain West standings after their wins on Thursday. The Rams handled Air Force 4-0 to improve to 5-3-1.
Four players accounted for the four goals, including Maggie Altman, who leads the team with four.
CSU ranks third in the Mountain West with 15.67 shots per game and fourth with 1.40 goals per game. CC is 5-2-3 all-time against the Rams. The programs have split the last two contests and the Rams won the most recent matchup, a 3-0 decision in Fort Collins last season.
