Tigers Fall to No. 3 Western Michigan

Alex Bump scored and added an assist and Cameron Rowe had 26 saves to lead No. 3 Western Michigan past Colorado College, 4-1, Friday night at Ed Robson Arena.

The Broncos hold on to first place in the NCHC with the victory, improving to 18-4-1 overall and 11-1-1 in league play. The Tigers, meanwhile, fell to 12-12-1 and 6-8-1 and remain in a tie for sixth place in the NCHC.

Following a scoreless first period, WMU's Owen Michaels opened the scoring just 18 seconds into the middle frame. Michaels took a pass from Bump at the red line, then beat CC goalie Kaidan Mbereko with a wrist shot from the right circle.

Bump doubled the Bronco lead at the 4:56 mark when he forced turnover in the Tiger end and scored from the slot.

Cam Knuble made it 3-0 at the 12:45 mark of the second period. TY Henricks raced down the right side, stopped at the right circle, spun around and found Knuble at the left post.

Owen Beckner put the Tigers on the board with his fifth goal of the season at the 9:10 mark of the third period. He took a pass from Ty Gallagher at his own blue line, streaked down the left side and went top shelf past WMU goaltender Cameron Rowe from the left circle.

Joona Vaisanen closed the scoring with a shot from the right circle that eluded Mbereko at the 12:15 mark of the final frame.

Mbereko finished the night with 24 saves as the Broncos outshot CC, 28-27. The Tigers were 0-for-2 on the power play and Western Michigan was 0-for-1.

The team battle again on Saturday, Feb. 1, beginning at 6 p.m.
