Tigers Capture SCAC Regular Season Title With Huge Win Over Dallas

Another 10-goal game for the Colorado College men's soccer team sealed an unbeaten regular season, the regular season title and No. 1 seed in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament next week.

Sophomore Teddy Opler collected his first career hat trick, freshman Ewen Robertson added two more goals to his season tally and senior captain Rex Karjian matched his career high of three assists.

"We hope we still have a lot of soccer to play, but I'm so proud of the team and the regular season we put together," head coach Scott Palguta said. "With a lot of new faces, the captains quickly created  a cohesive and supportive environment.

The Tigers outshot the Crusaders 18-3, including 11-2 on net. Sophomore Will Jones and Opler led the team with three shots each. All of Opler's shots were on net.

Dallas scored the first goal of the game in the 13th minute, but it only took 50 seconds for Ewen Robertson to respond with his first goal of the afternoon after an assist from junior Jack Hilliard

Hilliard finished the game with two assists.

The second goal of the game came off a cross from Rex Karjian that bounced off a Dallas defender into the back of the net, and it was ruled as an own goal.

Opler scored his first goal in the 32nd minute after an assist from Jones.

Robertson followed with his second tally in the 38th minute after a ball got loose in the box from a great feed from freshman Aris Lindquist

CC led 4-1 at the break. In the second half, the scoring continued with Opler's second and third goals in the 52nd and 58th minutes. Karjian got the assists on both goals.

Junior Wyatt Linggi scored his second goal of the season in the 67th minute to make it 8-1. Hilliard had the assist on the goal, his second of the game and sixth of the year.

Freshman Jack Purvis scored his second career goal in the 76th minute with an assist from Rocco Meyerhoff off a corner kick. It was Meyerhoff's first career point.

Junior Diego Martinez collected his first career goal in the 87th minute to top off the tremendous offensive output for the Tigers.

CC finished the regular season with an unbeaten record of 11-0-6 and 8-0-3 in conference play. It's the fourth-straight unbeaten season the Tigers have ran the gauntlet in SCAC play and came away without a loss.

"We've received big contributions from up and down the roster on our way to the regular season SCAC title," Palguta said. "Most impressive, our seniors will graduate unbeaten in regular season league marches!"

The Tigers will play the winner of the No. 4 seed and No. 5 seed matchup in the semifinals of the SCAC Tournament on Friday, Nov. 7. This year's tournament will be in Round Rock, Texas, with the title game being played on Sunday, Nov. 9.
