No. 4 Denver Sneaks Past 17th-Ranked Tigers

No. 4 Denver posted its second consecutive one-goal victory over Colorado College Saturday night, defeating the 17th-ranked Tigers, 3-2, at Robson Arena.

Brandon Lisowsky had a goal and an assist and Owen Beckner had a pair of helpers, but it wasn't enough as CC fell to 6-5-1 overall and 1-4-1 in the NCHC. The Pioneers, meanwhile, moved to 8-3-1 overall and 4-0-0 in league play.

Denver opened the scoring when Jake Fisher split a pair of CC defenders along the right boards, cut to the middle and sent a wrist shot from the high slot past CC goalie Kaidan Mbereko just 2:37 into the contest.

Eric Jamieson made it 2-0 with a wrister from the top of the left circle with 3:26 remaining in the second period.

Lisowsky cut the lead to 2-1 with his first career goal just 49 seconds into the third period. He took a centering pass from Gavin Lindberg and beat Denver goalie Quentin Miller from the slot. Beckner collected his team-high seventh assist on the play.

Boston Buckberger scored his second goal of the weekend to make it 3-1 with a one-timer from the top of the right circle during a 4-on-3 power play.

With Mbereko on the bench, Wilson Bjorck scored his second of the season with 1:47 remaining. Beckner found Bjorck with a cross-ice pass and the freshman from Sweden found the open net from the right circle. Lisowsky started the play to record his first career multi-point game.

The Tigers put three shots on goal in the final minutes, attempting to tie the score, but Miller (38 saves) was up to the task and saved all three.

Mbereko finished with 23 saves as the Tigers outshot Denver, 40-26, including a 21-7 advantage in the third period. Each team connected on a power-play goal, CC on its only opportunity, while Denver was 1-for-4.

The Tigers stay at home to face 3rd-ranked Minnesota Duluth next weekend, Nov. 21-22, at Robson Arena.
