CC Falls To TLU In SCAC Tournament Championship Game

The Colorado College men's soccer team fell to Texas Lutheran 1-0 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament title game on Sunday in Round Rock, Texas.

A 20th-minute goal by TLU senior Carlos Longoria put the Bulldogs up early and was eventually enough to seal the tournament crown.

After the Bulldogs controlled most of the offense in the first half, the Tigers outshot TLU 11-6 in the second half, including 3-1 shots on goal. '

Sophomore Teddy Opler led CC with three shots. Junior Jack Hilliard and sophomore Will Jones each had two shots, including one on target. Freshman Wilder Judelson also recorded a shot on goal.

Trailing 1-0 at the break, the Tigers fought for the tying goal in the 54th minute when Judelson got a look on frame off a free kick; however, TLU goalkeeper Ernersto Avila made the save.

Jones took his lone SOG in the 60th minute towards the bottom left corner of the net, but was also stopped by the Bulldogs' defense.

Hilliard had the final shot on frame in the 69th minute towards the upper half of the net. CC did string a flurry of shots in the closing minutes, three of which came from Opler and the other from senior Oliver Ramirez. Despite the late efforts, TLU held on to the 1-0 victory.

Junior goalkeeper Alex Wolter finished with seven saves.

CC's 18-game unbeaten streak came to an end, tying the 1992 season for the longest in program history.

The Tigers set the program record for the longest unbeaten streak to start a season. They achieved the first-ever unbeaten regular season in team history after winning a conference regular-season title.

Alex Wolter, senior Dylan Stapley and Teddy Opler were all named to the SCAC All-Tournament team.
