CC Heads To New York To Take On Buffalo

The Colorado College women's soccer team heads eastward to Buffalo, N.Y., to take on the University at Buffalo and Canisius College in its first actual road trip of the season.

CC (1-0-1) faces off against the Bulls (1-0-1) on Thursday, Aug 21, for the second year in a row after tying 1-1 in Colorado Springs last season. Both teams are unbeaten after the first week and are each coming off draws. It is CC's first time playing in Buffalo.

Last Time Out

The Tigers battled the University of Denver to a 0-0 draw on Sunday, Aug. 17 at Stewart Field. They were outshot 15-10, but the Pioneers committed 11 fouls to CC's seven.

Sophomore Nadia Cassamajor led the team with four shots (one on target), including the potential game-winner in the final minutes that DU's goalkeeper barely saved. CC has gone 7-1-4 in its last 12 home games; its last loss at Stewart came against Colorado State on Sept. 29, 2024.

Instant Impact

Transfer Nadia Cassamajor collected her first point as a Tiger against NM State. The Bridgewater, Mass. native fed Memoly with a beautiful one-touch pass after Rose found her on the offensive side of the field. Cassamajor nearly had the game-winner against Denver and led the team with four shots.

Freshman defenders Lily Smith and Taylor Mentink have helped fill the defensive gap immediately since joining the Tigers. Smith has played all 180 minutes through the first two games, starting in both.

Mentink played all 90 minutes against the University of Denver on Sunday in her first career start after playing 54 minutes against NM State. Smith and Mentink helped lead CC to the first shutout of the season against the Pios.

Out The Gates

After starting the season 0-2 in 2024, the Tigers are unbeaten through the first two games for the first time since 2021.

Junior midfielder Kendall Memoly leads the team with two goals, both of which came against NM State. It was the first career brace.

Junior goalkeeper Regan Wallace recorded her eighth career shutout on Sunday vs Denver. Wallace had six in 2024, suitable for fifth-most in the Mountain West. She had seven saves in the effort, tying last year's season-high.

Scouting The Bulls

Buffalo opened up its season with a 3-0 decisive victory over Canisius College on Aug. 14.

Graduate senior Jasmine Guerber scored two of the three goals and leads the team with five points after logging an assist as well. Guerber led the Bulls with six goals in 2024 and finished the year with 13 points and 55 shots.

The Bulls tied with Colgate 1-1 on Sunday in Hamilton, N.Y. Their head coach, Shawn Burke, is in his 12th season at the helm and has 114 career wins on his record, all at Buffalo. Last year, Burke led the Bulls to the MAC Championship game but fell short against Western Michigan.
