Women's soccer will face Wyoming in a Saturday night tilt at Stewart Field with just three points separating the conference leading Tigers and the third place Cowgirls.
QUEST TO THE SUMMIT
The Colorado College Women's Soccer team stands as the only team in the Mountain West that remains undefeated, with just four matches remaining in the regular season. The Tigers are 5-0-1 in conference play with the lone draw being a 2-2 match at Nevada on October 3rd, where the Tigers scored twice in the final five minutes to earn a late point on the road. The extra point is proving critical as the Tigers are just that one point clear of Hawaii for first place in the conference. With four matches left for many teams in the league, and six points separating the top six teams, it is still a tight race to make the four team tournament that looms in the second week of November. Around the league, two matches on Saturday stand out with significant playoff implications, with CC (1st, 16 pts) and Wyoming (3rd, 13 pts) being the first, and a island clash between Hawaii (2nd, 15 pts) and visiting Grand Canyon (6th, 10 pts) being the other that fans will have their eye on.
LAST TIME OUT
Colorado College had their work cut out for them as they made their way deep into the heart of Texas to take on the Miners of UTEP in El Paso. The Miners welcomed the Tigers having a 5-0 record on home turf. After a late time change due to extreme winds expected in the area that moved the game up an hour, both teams fought tough conditions throughout the match. UTEP proved to be frustrating to the Tigers, as CC quickly learned why the Miners were so difficult to solve on their home pitch. Chances were hard to come by due to a combination of two staunch defensive sides, paired with the swirling gusts that were in and out during th first half, and compounded throughout the second half. It was a late strike that would push the Tigers over the edge with the only goal of the match, as Tyler Rose scored off a turnover in the 81st minute. The Miners were getting organized after winning the ball of a CC throw in just past midfield, when Ella Ashouri would block their clearance attempt. The loose ball would fall to the feet of Rose who wasted no time and fired it in the left side of the net to give CC the first result by a visiting team in El Paso, leaving town with three points in a 1-0 victory.
A LOOK AT THE COWGIRLS
Alyssa Glover is the name at the top of the report on Wyoming's roster, sporting a seven goal and seven assist pace ahead of Saturday's match with an impressive 21 point total. She is tops in the league in points, as she checks in second in goals, and first in assists. Isabel Vasco, and Brooke Brown are tied second on the team with five goals apiece, as Maddie Burr checks in with four goals. Haley Bartel is the expected netminder for the Cowgirls, coming in with 15 starts in 15 games for Wyoming, giving way to Julia Herges for just 20 relief minutes once this season. Bartel has allowed 12 goals on the season, making 48 saves. She sports a 0.81 goals against average which is second best in the Mountain West, and a .800 save percentage which checks in third in the league. Josh Purdum is at the helm of the Wyoming program in his third season. This is the best year under Purdum in Laramie, having gone 4-6-9 his first season, and 7-6-6 last fall.
