Tigers and No. 4 Western Michigan Skate to 1-1 Draw

Mats Lindgren scored and Kaidan Mbereko had 27 saves Friday night as Colorado College skated to a 1-1 tie with No. 4 Western Michigan at Ed Robson Arena.

The Broncos' William Whitelaw notched the only goal in the shootout to give Western Michigan the extra point in the NCHC standings. This was the fifth shootout of the season for the Tigers (12-14-5, 6-10-5 NCHC), who have been a part of five of the six shootouts across the entire NCHC schedule this season.

Lindgren opened the scoring at the 13:26 mark of the first period. He fired a rocket from the left point that sailed past WMU goalie Hampton Slukynsky (28 saves) for his fifth goal of the season. Gavin Lindberg and Fisher Scott collected their 13th and 12th assist of the season, respectively.

Sam Huck evened the score for Western Michigan (22-8-1, 14-6-1 NCHC) just 1:56 into the second period. Mbereko saved a shot by Bobby Cowan from the right circle but the puck squirted loose in the crease and Huck knocked it in.

That was it for the scoring as the two goaltenders were outstanding the rest of the way, with each of them making some incredible saves and helping their teams kill off seven total power plays, four for CC and three for WMU.

The Broncos had a man advantage with four minutes left in the third period, while CC went on a power play with 1:17 remaining in the third that extended into overtime. Each team had five shots on the power play throughout the contest.

Colorado College outshot the Broncos, 29-28, with Lindgren and Huck leading all players with five, followed by CC's Gavin Lindberg with four.

The teams will wrap up their season series and CC will play its final home game of the regular season on Saturday, Feb. 21, beginning at 6 p.m.
