Three Future Tigers Selected in 2026 NHL Draft

Zach Olsen to Toronto, Will McLaughlin to Vegas and Jake Gustafson to San Jose

Three future Colorado College hockey players were selected in the 2026 NHL Draft Saturday in Buffalo, N.Y.

Zach Olsen was the first Tiger signee taken on Saturday when the Toronto Maple Leafs selected him with the 73rd overall pick in the third round.

Olsen, the fifth Colorado College signee or player to be chosen in the third round and the eighth-highest draft pick in program history, collected 34 points (18g,16a) in 57 games with the Saskatoon Blades of the WHL last season.

Will McLaughlin was then selected with the 159th overall pick in the fifth round by the Vegas Golden Knights.

He played 68 games for the Portland Winterhawks last season, scoring nine goals and adding 21 assists for 30 points.

Another Portland Winterhawk, Jake Gustafson, was picked by the San Jose Sharks in the sixth round with the 174th overall selection.

Gustafson, whose father, Jon, played goalie for Colorado College from 1987-91 and is currently a senior vice president with the Sharks, had 13 goals and 12 assists in 68 games with the Winterhawks in '25-26.

"We are proud of Zach, Will, and Jake, and excited for their families, while recognizing the relentless dedication, discipline, and sacrifices they have made throughout their careers to reach this point," head coach Kris Mayotte said. "Earning the attention of NHL organizations is a testament to their hard work and commitment to excellence. Beyond their undeniable talent on the ice, all three are exceptional individuals whose character and integrity make them truly impressive representatives of our program. Our fans are going to love watching them at Ed Robson Arena in the near future."

The trio are the 101st, 102nd and 103rd draft picks in Colorado College hockey history.
