The Mahony Award
Criteria for Award
and
Application Procedures
The Mahony Award is supported from the earnings of the endowment fund by the same name and is governed by the following guidelines and conditions:
1. The purpose of the Award is to provide a financial award to a senior student(s) who is directly involved in the Colorado College Sports Medicine Department and whose academic emphasis is in either the pre-med, pre-physical therapy or pre-physician assistant programs. The student must have a minimum cumulative G.PA. of 3.25.
2. The Award will be in the form of cash and will be comparable in size to other awards offered by the college. The selection committee in conjunction with the Stewardship Office in Development will determine the specific award amount(s).
3. Students, who meet the criteria, must apply for the Award according to the following schedule: Application deadline is February 1. Committee review of applications completed by March 1. Interviews of applicants will be March 2 – 10. Award Notification will be March 15.
4. The application will include a statement of philosophy related to medicine or allied health (two page maximum), an essay defining Sports Medicine (one page maximum), application cover letter, transcript and resume.
5. The Coordinator of Sports Medicine will serve as the chair of the selection committee and will select the other committee members to include such positions as the Associate Athletic Director for Academic Enhancement, the Director of Rehabilitation Service, the Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC), staff, and student athletic trainers. Dr. and Mrs. Mahony will be included in the interview process, as applicable.
6. The recipient(s) of the Award will be recognized at Honors Convocation.
7. Upon receiving the grant, the recipient will write a letter of thanks to the donors.
8. The foregoing guidelines and conditions may be amended from time to time to meet the changing conditions or to improve the program. The donors will be consulted about and advised of such changes.
