DRUG TESTING
Consistent with NCAA membership, Colorado College participates in drug testing for NCAA championship events. Colorado College, as an individual entity, does not conduct additional drug testing. Student-athletes should be aware that both performance-enhancing and "street" drugs are banned by the NCAA and could result in a loss of athletics eligibility. Please seek the assistance of the Colorado College Sports Medicine staff to determine the permissibility of use.
Ultimately, student-athletes are responsible for all substances that they ingest, inject, or place on the skin. In addition, some legally prescribed substances may trigger a positive test at the time of drug testing. Do not stop taking any medication, but rather work with the Colorado College Sports Medicine staff to appropriately document the medication's use. Because the appeal time frame for a positive drug test can be small, we highly recommend that you obtain this documentation in advance of your arrival on campus.

How do I know if the medication I am taking is banned by the NCAA?
The Colorado College Sports Medicine staff does not condone the use of dietary supplements. Student-athletes should be aware that they risk losing their eligibility to participate in intercollegiate athletics if they test positive for a NCAA banned substance that may be found in any medication or over-the-counter supplement, regardless of the reason or purpose for taking such medications/supplements. Student-athletes are responsible for what they put into/on their bodies. The labeling on many products can be misleading and inaccurate, and sales personnel are neither motivated nor qualified to accurately certify that products contain no banned substances. “Healthy” or “naturally occurring” are terms often used to market sales of dietary supplements, but do not necessarily mean they are safe.
