Biography

2011: Capped a tremendous college career by becoming only the second CC men's runner to compete at nationals all four years (other was Kiran Moorty '07) and lead the Tigers to their school record third-straight SCAC team championship... he won the SCAC league individual championship for the third time in a row (25:46) and followed that up two weeks later with his third championship at the West Region meet (24:53)...he is the first Tiger to ever record three league and regional individual titles in a row...he placed 104th at NCAA Championships (25:18)...Named as team's Most Valuable Runner for third straight season.
2010: Set a personal 8K best of 24:42 (dropped from 25:04 in 2009)...time is tied for third-best in school history...placed first in the All-SCAC Conference Championships as well as first in the All West-Regional Championships...came in 105th at Nationals...earned “Most Valuable Runner” honors as his consistently spectacular race finishes propelled him into a tie for third place among our greatest 8K performances in CC history...became the first individual in team history to win two conference and two West Regional meets in-a-row...led all eight meets offered…set new course records at the UCCS Invite and CC Invite…finished just off the course records at Pre-Nationals…had the fifth fastest time in conference history at the SCAC Championships…tied two-time All-American, Scott Kang, for the most individual wins in a season by a CC athlete with a total of 6…is the only CC runner who has run under 26 minutes (25:27) at altitude (6200 ft) on a 98% gravel course.
2009: Earned All-America honors by finishing 18th overall in a field of 276 runners at the NCAA Championships … Covered the 8,000-meter course at the Highland Park Golf Course in Cleveland, Ohio, in a time of 25:54.70 … Became the first CC sophomore to win the NCAA West Region meet with a time 25:26.65, beating Occidental’s Eric Kleinsasser by .016 of a second … Named the SCAC Runner of the Year and earned all-conference honors after winning the conference championship in a time of 24:29.60 on the Georgia International Horse Park course that was just short of a true 8K.
2008: Earned All-West Region honors his rookie season, then finished 14th among all freshmen at the NCAA Division III Championships...was 10th overall at regionals after claiming seventh place at the SCAC meet...one of three Tigers to earn all-conference recognition .

Before Colorado College: Brainerd earned second-team all-league and regional scholar-athlete honors as a prep at Arapahoe HIgh School, where he helped the cross country team to a runner-up finish at the Colorado state meet as a senior in 2008...also ran a leg for the 4x800 relay team that took second in the state that year.
