Joshua Alcala, who has played and coached at nearly every level of soccer in the United States, was named an assistant coach for the Colorado College women’s soccer program in March of 2022 and enters his second season with the program in the fall of 2023.
Alcala is involved in all aspects of the CC program, including recruiting, coaching, scouting, scheduling, budget, equipment, travel, and player relations.
Alcala spent the 2021 season as an assistant coach at Texas State University. Prior to that, he served as an assistant coach at Illinois College (2020-21), the University of Wisconsin-Parkside (2018–20), and Purdue University-Northwest (2017-18). Alcala also spent time as the head coach at AFC Union in Franksville, Wis. (2018-19) and Chicago Fire Juniors (2017-18).
On the summer camp circuit, Alcala was a fixture on the coaching staff at the University of Texas-Austin (2015-present), Northwestern University (2019-preseent), and most recently at Texas State University, where he served as assistant director.
Alcala played four years of collegiate soccer at the University of South Carolina, where he was a first-team all-Conference USA selection in 2005 when he helped lead the Gamecocks to the CUSA tournament championship. Alcala also helped USC earn three appearances in the NCAA Division I Men’s Soccer Championship.
In 2006, Alcala was invited to the MLS Combine and he went on to play professionally for Crystal Palace FC (Baltimore) and the Austin Aztex in the United Soccer League.
Alcala earned a bachelor’s degree in media arts from South Carolina in 2006 and his master’s in sport management from Wisconsin-Parkside in 2020.
He earned 11v11 and Goalkeeper Level 1 diplomas from the United Soccer Coaches, as well as a National ‘D’ License United States Soccer Federation.
