Biography
2020-21: Unable to play due to an injury … Made her second consecutive appearance on the Academic All-Mountain West Team for posting a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or better.
2019: Started 13 of the team’s 17 games … Ranked ninth on the team with a career-high 1,018 minutes … Played every minute on four occasions, including three of the team’s six shutouts … Helped CC finish fourth in the Mountain West with 20 goals allowed and fifth with a 1.19 goals-against average … Earned her first collegiate point with an assist on Jacqui Hand’s second goal in the 4-0 win over Southern Illinois University … Also had an assist on Hailee Rasmussen’s goal against San Diego State University … Earned her first appearance on the Academic All-Mountain West Team for posting a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or better during the fall semester.
2018: Started each if the first five games, but suffered a season-ending injury before the Sept. 16 game against the University of Houston.
ODP and Club Notes: Trained with the New Mexico ODP in 2013 and 2014 … Helped Rush Select win the 2017 New Mexico Youth Soccer Association state championship … Rush Select also won the Desert Classic Tournament that year … Led Rush to the semifinals of the 2016 National Premier League’s national tournament in addition to the NPL regional crown … In 2015, her team won the second of back-to-back NMYSA state championships … Rush won the NPL Far West Regional championship and advanced to the national NPL tournament in 2014.
High School Notes: Earned four varsity letters playing soccer at Rio Rancho High School in Rio Rancho, N.M. … Named a team captain during her senior season … Helped the Rams reach the championship game of the New Mexico 6A state tournament in 2014 … Her team also won metro, district and regional titles that year … Earned honorable-mention all-state accolades as a junior … Also was a second-team all-district choice as a sophomore and senior … A four-time District I all-academic selection.
Coach’s Comments: “Kayla is a tough defender who works extremely hard and loves to get forward when her team has possession of the ball. She is athletic, technical and tenacious. Kayla will help us by limiting chances on our goal and getting forward and contributing on our attack.”
