Adila Gathers

  • Title
    Assistant Women's Basketball Coach
A native of Buffalo, New York, Gathers began her collegiate basketball career at Saint Francis University in Pennsylvania before transferring to Niagara University, where she competed in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC). During her senior season in 2018–19, she appeared in 30 games, making 25 starts, and averaged 7.0 points and 5.8 rebounds per game. She led the Purple Eagles with 15 blocked shots and recorded two double-doubles during the season. She was also recognized on the MAAC All-Academic Team during her collegiate career.

Following her collegiate career, Gathers signed a professional contract with Santeras de Aguada of Puerto Rico's Baloncesto Superior Nacional Femenino (BSNF), fulfilling a lifelong goal of becoming a professional basketball player. Her experience competing at the collegiate and professional levels provides a foundation for her approach to player development, preparation, and understanding the demands of high-level competition.

Beyond basketball, Gathers has built a career in fitness, performance, and organizational leadership. She currently serves as Head Coach at Alloy Personal Training in Colorado Springs, where she oversees coaching operations, develops individualized training programs, conducts movement and fitness assessments, and supports clients in achieving their performance goals. Her previous experience includes serving as a Studio Manager at Orangetheory Fitness and General Manager at D1 Training, where she developed skills in team leadership, coaching development, program management, and athlete-centered training.

Basketball has been a defining part of Gathers' life. Growing up around the game, she developed an early appreciation for coaching through her father, who served as a collegiate basketball coach. Her involvement with Winning Edge Leadership, an organization supporting the professional development of women and underrepresented individuals in sports, further reinforced the importance of mentorship and creating opportunities for future leaders.

Now transitioning into collegiate coaching, Gathers is passionate about passing the torch to the next generation of student-athletes. She hopes to use her experiences as a former Division I and professional player, combined with her background in performance and leadership, to help young women develop confidence, discipline, resilience, and a strong sense of identity both on and off the court.

Her coaching philosophy centers on preparing student-athletes not only for the demands of competition but also for the opportunities and challenges that await them beyond basketball.
