Chris Starr

Chris Starr has served many roles during her 30-plus year career at Colorado College. Currently, she is the Director of Campus Recreation and the Adam F. Press Fitness Center.

Starr oversees the intramural and club sports programs, three full-time staff and more than 150 student workers. The school captured its first club national title in May, the 2023 USA Men’s Ultimate D-III College Championship.

She was one of three members of the planning committee that worked with Oz Architect to design the award-winning Adam F. Press Fitness Center that opened in 2013. The 30,000-square-foot, multi-level facility offers a full complement of fitness machines and state-of-the-art equipment. With floor-to-ceiling windows that offer panoramic views of the Front Range and Pikes Peak, the setting provides an inspiring environment for the entire Colorado College community to stay in shape.

Starr was the director of intramurals and club sports at CC from 1994 until the promotion to her current role in 2014. Colorado College was ranked in the Princeton Review for “Everyone Plays Intramural Sports” for 22 years, including a No. 2 national ranking in 2019.

She arrived at Colorado College in 1990 as the Director of Wellness, a position she held until 2006, and was one of two acting assistant athletic directors at the school for one year beginning in April of 2000.

In addition to her work in the athletics department, Starr has served the college in its new employee and safety orientation, the support staff newsletter committee, taught classes in coaching methodology and as a CPR and first aid coordinator and instructor.

Outside of the campus community, she was a Doping Control Officer for the United States Olympic Committee from 1993 to 2000, including the Salt Lake Olympic Games in 2002 and the Atlanta Olympic and Paralympic Games in 1996.

Starr earned her bachelor’s degree in biology and social health administration from the University of Nevada-Reno and holds a master’s degree in exercise science from UCCS.
