Scott Lowenberg, who arrived on campus in December 2005, serves as Senior Associate Athletic Director for External Operations as a member of the Colorado College athletics senior staff.
A dedicated and successful athletics administrator with more than 30 years of experience, he oversees the newly constructed Ed Robson Arena, the corporate sponsorship program, all marketing and sales campaigns, ticket operations, major gift and annual fundraising, the athletics communications office, licensing and sales of merchandise and hockey event management. In addition, he is the sport administrator for the men's and women's tennis programs and co-director for CC Hockey.
Scott’s leadership in revenue generation has elevated the profile of Colorado College Athletics to new heights and his department has raised more than $100 million – record high numbers for the school – in external funds since his arrival. Those numbers include the strategic plan and fund-raising for the construction of the new Ed Robson Arena, which opened in October of 2021 and allows the CC hockey team to play its games on campus for the first time.
Lowenberg directs the campaign that has increased annual sponsorship cash revenue by more than 2400 percent – with current cash commitments to CC athletics exceeding $6 million and valuable gift-in-kind and credit surpassing $1 million. As a result of his season, group and single-game ticket sales campaigns, Tiger Hockey is one of the top winter collegiate events in all of Colorado and has sold out every home game at Robson Arena.
In 2006, Lowenberg created the CC Tiger Sports Radio Network and in the summer of 2013 negotiated the current flagship station agreement with KRDO News Radio 105.5 FM, 92.5 FM and 1240 AM. He also negotiated an affiliate agreement with KSBV 93.7 FM for the high country, west of Pikes Peak. The CC Tiger hockey broadcasts have since won many Colorado Broadcasters Association Awards. Scott also has increased television exposure for the hockey program by negotiating agreements with the AT&T Sports Network, CBS Sports Network, NBC Sports Network, Altitude, Root Sports, Fox Sports Net, ESPNU, Comcast-CET, KOAA-NBC, KKTV-CBS, KXTU-The CW and KRDO-ABC.
Responsible for conceptualizing, planning and carrying out all game-day activities, promotions and fan-experience campaigns, Lowenberg’s office annually receives national and local accolades for its marketing campaigns. In fact, for the 2008-09 academic year, his staff won six awards (three gold and three silver) – more than any other NCAA program in the country – from the National Association of Collegiate Marketing Administrators. The department captured two gold and one silver medal at the 2022 NACMA Convention.
Lowenberg has further utilized his marketing and fund-raising expertise while serving on the President's strategic planning committee, the President’s leadership team, the “Campaign for Colorado College” that raised more than $450 million, the NCHC Athletics Council and the marketing and public relations committee for the National College Hockey Conference. He also chaired the planning committee for the 2008 NCAA Hockey Regional in Colorado Springs. Scott is currently a member of the Regional Business Alliance Colorado Springs Sports Economy Team.
The Iowa native previously worked as assistant vice president and general manager for Tulane University IMG Sports Marketing, helping the program during the time of Hurricane Katrina. Lowenberg earlier held Assistant AD positions at Northern Illinois University and the University of Maine from 1996 through 2005. While at Northern Illinois, Lowenberg produced record sponsor and ticket sales for the Huskies, including an increase in ticket sales revenues by 350%. Lowenberg also secured Northern Illinois’ first Chicagoland radio affiliate for NIU football. Scott was also instrumental in NIU’s planning, fund raising and construction of the new home for NIU basketball - the Convocation Center.
A former wrestler himself, Lowenberg also served as the sport administrator for NIU Wrestling while the Huskies enjoyed record success with rankings in the Top 25 and produced the most All-Americans in school history. In addition, he negotiated and managed NIU’s first nationally-televised football game on campus. He earlier produced record numbers at Maine, including an all-time high in tickets sales and increasing sponsor revenues from $30,000 in fiscal year '96 to beyond $500,000 in 2000. Scott was also administrator during the 1999 Maine Hockey National Championship. Prior to Northern Illinois and Maine, he held marketing, fund-raising and sports information positions at the University of South Alabama, East Tennessee State University and the University of Southern Mississippi.
Lowenberg is a 1993 graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi, where he went on to earn a master’s degree.
