Colorado College began Day 2 of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference crossover matches at Birmingham-Southern College on the right foot with a 25-18, 25-17, 25-20 victory over Millsaps College.
Unfortunately, the Tigers dropped a four-set decison to No. 16 Southwestern University in the final match of the weekend to slip to third place in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference standings. Colorado College won the first set, but the Pirates rallied for the 19-25, 25-21, 25-21, 25-18 victory.
Sophomore middle blocker
Emily Perkins led CC with 18 kills and 17 digs against SWU, while senior outside hitter
Anna Clithero added 16 kills and eight digs.
Perkins averaged 3.43 kills, 3.33 digs and 0.53 blocks per game during the Tigers' four matches and posted three double-doubles.
In the victory over Millsaps, Perkins had 14 kills, 15 digs and three service aces.
Clithero also posted a double-double with 14 kills and 13 digs, while sophomore middle blocker
Erika Pirotte had seven kills and four blocked shots.
The Majors were led by Dixie Krauss, who had a match-high 24 kills, and Kate Hall, who had a team-high eight kills.
Colorado College will travel to Georgetown, Texas, next weekend for another round of crossover matches, including the only regular season match against first-place Trinity University.
