Clithero powers Tigers past Cornell College

Anna Clithero put down a season-high 20 kills to lead Colorado College to a 25-15, 24-26, 25-21, 25-14 victory over Cornell College in a non-conference match on Friday night at Reid Gymnasium.
 
The Tigers improved to 23-9 overall and matched the 1986 and 2006 squads for the seventh-most victories in a single season. CC's 1985 team recorded a 40-10 record before the NCAA placed limits on the amount of contests a team could play. Cornell dropped to 15-13.
 
Clithero added 12 digs to record the 70th double-double (kills-digs) of her career and her 14th this season. The senior outside hitter has finished with double-figure kills 22 times this season and double-figure digs on 16 occasions.
 
Sophomore outside hitter Emily Perkins added her 10th double-double of the season with 11 kills and 10 digs, while freshman setter Annie Bernacchi had her fourth with 28 assists and 12 digs.
 
Freshman setter Amy Schornack hit .421 with a season-high nine kills on 19 attacks with only one attack error. She also had a match-high three service aces. Freshman opposite hitter Meredith Ballard also had nine kills, while freshman outside hitter Sarah Schmoker chipped in with eight kills and two aces. Ballard also had a hand on three blocked shots.
 
The Rams got a team-high 18 kills from junior middle hitter Laura Dudgeon, while freshman libero Caiti Hladky had a match-high 17 digs.
 
The Tigers will be back in action on Tuesday night when they play host to Division II Colorado Christian University. That match will be part of CC's 'Dig Pink' event as the Tigers team up with the Side-Out Foundation in the fight against Breast Cancer.
