Fueled by a pair of unassisted goals off the foot of sophomore forward
Tiffany Brown, CC utilized its Stewart Field magic once again on Sunday to record a key 2-1 Conference USA victory over the University of Memphis.Â
Brown's second tally of the match and team leading sixth of the season in the 66th minute snapped a 1-1 deadlock and allowed the Tigers to improve to 9-3-1 overall and 3-1 in league play for the season. Now 6-0-1 overall at home, they're just one point behind first-place East Carolina University in the C-USA standings.
"This is huge," said
Geoff Bennett, who won for the 50th time as head coach at CC. "I'm very, very pleased. That's a great Memphis team that we just beat, one that I have a lot of respect for. It just shows how good this conference is, from top to bottom. Hopefully, people will start to recognize that."

Senior keeper
Geneva Sills backstopped Sunday's triumph with nine saves, allowing only a fluke goal that deflected off the head of one of her own defenders after a free kick by UM's Emiko Schwab.
Brown opened the scoring in the 19th minute, stealing the ball in the middle of the final third before dribbling in and firing a quick, low shot from just outside the box. Her second game winner of the season was the result of another outstanding solo effort, as she moved into position from the right side before beating Memphis goalkeeper Jordan Boyles with another rocket.
"Tiffany was at her best today," Bennett said. "She was strong, she was fast and she scored two great goals. When Tiffany is that ready to play, she's one of the most dangerous forwards in our conference."Â
Memphis, the defending C-USA playoff champion and regular-season co-champion, dropped to 6-4-1 overall and 2-2 in conference play.
