While Colgate University's visit on Saturday ends a three-week absence from the World Arena for No. 3-ranked CC, the Tigers face one more daunting challenge on the road before then.
On Friday, they conclude a five-game road swing with a much anticipated and sold-out contest against 11th-ranked Air Force at the Cadet Ice Area.
Forget that Colorado College has beaten its cross-town rival 25 consecutive times and is undefeated (29-0-1) in the last 30 meetings dating back 23 years, Never mind that AFA's strength of schedule isn't exactly at the top of the charts.
The Falcons, who are off to their best start ever after earning NCAA tournament bids the last two seasons, bring a perfect 12-0 record into Friday's showdown and are leading the nation in scoring. Two of their forwards – senior Brent Olson (5g,16a) and sophomore Jacques Lamoureux (11g,10a) – each have recorded more points than anyone in the country through 12 games.
This will be a stiff test for Scott Owens' troops, who have struggled for goals on Friday nights all season.
Good new is that the Tigers, 8-3-3 overall and 6-3-1 in the WCHA, will play seven of their next nine games at home once the challenge at Air Force is out of the way. First on the schedule is ECAC member Colgate, 4-4-2 and 1-3-2 in league play, which last played at the World Arena in October 1999.
