Auguste nets 30, but Tigers fall to Trinity

Melanie Auguste scored 30 points and pulled down 10 rebounds, but it wasn't quite enough to prevent the Trinity University women's basketball team from coming behind to post a 70-65 victory over Colorado College in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference opener for both team on Friday night at CC's Reid Gymnasium.

Auguste scored 15 points to help Colorado College open up a 30-18 lead after 20 minutes, but Trinity went on a 19-7 run during the first 6:33 of the second half to forge a 37-37 tie.

CC took its final lead on a pair of Auguste free throws with 6:15 remaining in the game, only to see Trinity run on seven straight points.

The Tigers pulled to within one point on a Whitney Spooner layup with 2:23 to play, but that was as close as CC would get. Krista Prato Matthews scored eight of her team-high 20 points in the last 3:09 to secure the victory for TU.

Ali Marzella had 15 points, while Abby Dietert and Danielle Hubenak added 14 apiece.

Eliese Hansberry had 11 points for CC.

Colorado College (2-3, 0-1 SCAC) will play host to Southwestern University on Saturday at 6 p.m.
