Becky Luetjen scored a season-high 25 points to lead Colorado College to a 66-56 victory over Southwestern University in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference game on Saturday night at Reid Gymnasium.
The freshman forward made 10 of 15 shots from the field and gave the Tigers a much-needed scoring threat to compliment
Eliese Hansberry and
Melanie Auguste, who finished with 16 and 14 points, respectively.
The Pirates jumped out to an early 5-2 lead, but the Tigers scored seven straight points to take a lead they would never give up. CC's advantage stayed at five points or less until the Tigers went on another 7-0 run triggered by an Auguste jumper with 5:06 remaining in the first half.
SWU (3-5 overall, 0-2 SCAC) pulled to within 40-36 after Stacy Mullins scored five straight points early in the second half, but Colorado College countered by scoring nine of the next 11 points to push its lead to double figures for the first time on a layup by Hansberry with 9:57 to play.
Emily Wattman-Turner gave CC its biggest lead at 60-46 with 4:41 remaining and the Pirates were never able to get closer than eight points the rest of the way.
Mullins led SWU with 15 points, while Natasha Azizi added 12 points and a team-high seven rebounds.
