Austin College took advantage of three double-digit runs to post a 91-74 victory over Colorado College in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference game on Saturday afternoon in Sherman, Texas.
The Tigers dropped to 7-4 overall and 1-2 in the SCAC, and saw their five-game winning streak come to an end. The Kangaroos improved to 5-5 overall and 2-1 in the conference.
Leading 24-22 with eight minutes remaining in the first half, Austin College went on a 16-3 spurt to take a 40-25 lead into the break.
Colorado College scored 10 of the first 12 points to open the second half, but the Kangaroos answered with a 21-8 run to open a 63-43 lead with 11:43 remaining in the game.
The Tigers countered with eight unanswered points over the next 1:41 to trim their deficit to 63-51, but that was as close as they would get.
Austin used a 24-9 run to take a 27-point lead with 3:32 remaining on the clock before CC scored 14 of the final 18 points.
Melanie Auguste eclipsed the 20-point plateau for the fourth time this season and finished with a game-high 26 points.
Becky Luetjen added 14 points, while
Whitney Spooner reached double figures for the second time with 10.
Maegan Fitzgerald led Austin College with 21 points, while Katy Williams posted a double-double with 15 points and a game-high 13 rebounds. Fitzgerald connected on five of seven three pointers.
The 'Roos made 11 of 20 three-point shots and finished with a 33-12 scoring advantage from behind the arc.
Colorado College returns to the road again next weekend for conference games at Hendrix College and Millsaps College on Friday and Sunday, respectively.
