Colorado College officially ushers in the 2009-10 campaign this Homecoming Weekend, playing host to Northeastern University in a pair of non-conference games at the World Arena.
Faceoff is 7:37 p.m. (MT) Friday and 7:07 p.m. Saturday as the Tigers, who skated to a 4-2 exhibition victory over the University of Calgary last Saturday, enter their 72nd season of competition against one of the Hockey East Association's top teams from a year ago. They open conference play in the WCHA a week later with two outings at the University of Wisconsin.
Tying a league and NCAA record for most ties in a season, CC finished 16-12-10 overall in 2008-09 and tied for third place in the WCHA standings, at 12-9-5. Northeastern, coached by former Tigers assistant Greg Cronin, earned a bid to the NCAA tournament after finishing second in Hockey East with an 18-6-3 mark in league play. The Huskies wound up 25-12-4 overall.
The teams have met only eight times previously, with Colorado College owning a 5-3 advantage in the rivalry. It's been more than 20 years since they last squared off back in the late 1980s, when Hockey East and the WCHA shared an interlocking schedule. This year marks Northeastern's first trip to Colorado Springs since mid-January 1988, as well as its first-ever appearance at the CSWA.
