Tigers fall to Alaska Anchorage in overtime

Winning streak ends in 3-2 loss

After tying Saturday's game with 33.1 seconds left in regulation, Colorado College carried a bit of momentum into overtime.

But Daniel Naslund had ideas of his own.

Naslund, a freshman center, scored on a rebound just one minute into the extra session to lift the University of Alaska Anchorage to a 3-2 sudden-death victory over CC that earned the Seawolves a split of their weekend series at the World Arena.

The defeat ended a six-game winning streak for the Tigers, who dropped to 10-3-1 overall and 7-2-1 in WCHA play. They remain tied with the University of Denver for first place in the league standings, however, thanks DU's 3-2 loss at home to St. Cloud State on Saturday.

A dramatic tally by junior winger Stephen Schultz in the final minute of the third period gave CC new life after it failed to capitalize on three power plays, including a five-on-three for 1:44, earlier in the frame.

Alaska Anchorage, which trailed 1-0 until junior winger Sean Wiles knotted the score on a fluke goal at 19:27 of the second stanza, grabbed the lead when Wiles scored again at 1:23 of the third. Wiles and junior right wing Tommy Grant assisted on Naslund's game winner. Wiles' first red lighter eluded Colorado College freshman goalie Joe Howe after deflecting off a defender in front of the net.

Senior defenseman Nate Prosser, who set up the late goal by Schultz, snapped a scoreless deadlock at 7:23 of the middle period with a power-play goal set up by freshman William Rapuzzi. Schultz also earned an assist.

Howe finished with 32 saves for the Tigers, while UAA's Jon Oltuis made 26 stops at the other end to help the Seawolves improve to 6-10 overall and 4-8 in league play.
