Led by junior forward
Tiffany Brown and senior defender
Lauren Talbot, who were voted to the first team, five Colorado College players have earned All-Conference USA recognition for the 2009 season.
Joining Brown and Talbot among the group of Tigers honored are senior midfielder
Ericka Baer, who received second-team accolades, along with senior forward
Emily Beans and sophomore goalkeeper
Caitlin Hulyo, who were named to the third team. In addition, rookie forward
Brittney Lyman was named to the C-USA all-freshman squad.
This year marks the third time that Beans has been selected to one of the all-league teams. It's the second time for Brown. CC became an affiliate member of Conference USA in 2006, when Beans also was named Freshman of the Year. Both she and Brown were included on the all-freshman teams their rookie years.
In addition, Baer and Beans earned spots on the league's 2009 All-Academic Teams. Baer, a biology/pre-med major with a cumulative grade-point average of 3.69, was one of 11 players to receive first-team recognition after being named to the second team in 2008. Beans, a biology major with a GPA of 3.68, is a second-team selection.
Despite finishing second in the final Conference USA standings this fall, the Tigers were shut out in the major awards categories, where Ashley Berra and Kelsey Bakker of Memphis were voted Offensive and Defensive Players of the Year, respectively, Becca Thompson of UCF Midfielder of the Year, Skye Schultz of UTEP Freshman of the Year, and Amanda Cromwell of UCF Coach of the Year.
Colorado College, which received a bye for the first round of the C-USA championship tournament in Dallas this week, opens post-season play with a semifinal contest at 7:30 p.m. (CT) Friday against the University of Memphis.
