Demonstrating a few more encouraging traits on Saturday, Colorado College bounced back in style.
The scrappy and resilient Tigers used timely tallies by five different players to defeat the University of Minnesota Duluth, 6-2, and earn a split of their two-game series at the World Arena.
The victory snapped nearly a year-old, five-game winless skid against the Bulldogs, all at home, and lifted CC back into a tie for first place in the WCHA standings with a 4-1-1 record in league play.
Senior left wing
Bill Sweatt led the assault with a pair of red lighters and an assist, while freshman right wing
Rylan Schwartz (1g,2a) and sophomore defenseman
Gabe Guentzel (3a) matched Sweatt's three points.
Capitalizing on UMD's frustration and poor discipline, the Tigers cashed in on four of seven power-play opportunities, including three of five in the third period when they sealed the triumph.
Senior
Mike Testwuide, sophomore
Tim Hall and freshman
William Rapuzzi also scored as Colorado College improve to 5-2-1 overall. Freshman goalie Mike Howe finished with 34 saves to bump his record in net to 5-1-1.
Duluth, 6-3-1 overall and 3-2-1 in WCHA play, converted on just one of seven power plays. Kyle Schmidt and Mike Seidel scored for the Bulldogs, who had won Friday's series opener by a 4-3 count but never led in this one. Sophomore goaltender Brady Hjelle stopped 30 of 36 CC shots, including 17 of 20 in the third period when the Tigers blitzed him with a team season high of 20 attempts on net.
