Hurster named MVP for 2009 season

Megan Hurster was named Most Valuable Runner as the 2009 season officially came to a close with the team's annual awards banquet on Wednesday night.

Hurster finished among CC's top four runners at every meet. She finished the season by leading the Tigers at the Southwestern College NAIA Mid-States Classic and finishing second among CC's participants at the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship and the NCAA West Region meets.

Rebecca Thompson was honored as the team's Most Improved Runner and was CC's representative on the SCAC's all-Sportsmanship Team. Thompson was second on the team at Fort Hays State and third at the Oklahoma State Cowboy Jamboree.

Georgia Ivsin was named Rookie of the Year for leading the newcomers at Fort Hays State and the SCAC championship.

Maggie Harkins, who returned from an injury that kept her from competing during most of the 2008 season, received the Jean Nesbitt Award as the squad's Most Inspirational Runner. Harkins led the Tigers at the NCAA West Regional and finished second on the team at the NAIA Mid-States Classic.

As a team, the Tigers finished sixth at the conference championship and 14th at the West Region meet.
