Schmoker helps Tigers split SCAC matches

Sophomore outside hitter Sarah Schmoker posted double-figure kills in back-to-back matches to help the 11th-ranked Colorado College volleyball team split a pair of contests on Saturday at the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference crossover matches.

Schmoker posted a career-high 14 kills to open the day, but CC dropped its first match of the season against a Division III opponent with a 25-17, 25-15, 20-25, 25-12 setback to host Trinity.

Junior middle blocker Erika Pirotte led the defense with 12 digs, while junior middle blocker Emily Perkins and sophomore middle blocker Haley Hamilton each had a pair of blocks.

Schmoker had 11 kills as the Tigers came from behind to defeat Birmingham-Southern College 21-25, 25-21, 25-20, 25-16 in their final match of the weekend.

Perkins recorded a season-high 20 digs and four blocked shots to lead the defensive effort. She also added a match-high three service aces.

Colorado College will be on the road again next weekend for SCAC matches at Greencastle, Ind. The Tigers will play host DePauw University and Oglethorpe University on Saturday, and then Centre College and Austin College on Sunday.
