Colorado College improved to 3-0 by sweeping Benedictine University and Whitworth University on Friday in the 2009 Molten Volleyball Pikes Peak Challenge at Reid Gymnasium.
The 18th-ranked Tigers defeated Benedictine 25-23, 25-15, 25-12 in their first match, then finished the day with a 25-21, 25-19, 25-15 victory over West Region rival Whitworth.
Freshman outside hitter Laura Goldsmith paced CC in the nightcap with 13 kills. Junior middle blocker Emily Perkins paced the defense with a match-high 15 digs and three solo blocks.
In CC's first match, sophomore rightside hitter Meredith Ballard led the Tigers with a eight kills, while sophomore middle blocker Haley Hamilton posted a .667 hitting percentage with six kills on nine attacks without an error.
Colorado College hit. 357 as a team, with only nine errors on 84 attacks.
Junior libero Erika Pirotte had a team-high 12 digs, while Perkins was just behind with 11. Hamilton had a match-high four blocked shots.
The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point defeated Oneonta State and Kenyon College to finish the day with a 2-0 tournament record. The Pointers will face Colorado College in Saturday's second match.
