A second half that started out with so much promise took a sudden and unfortunate turn for the worse for Colorado College on Sunday.
Held without a shot on goal for more than 55 minutes, the University of Washington exploded for three tallies within a span of 9:36 to overcome a 1-0 deficit and cruise to a 3-1 victory over the Tigers in the final match of the Husky/Nike Invitational on the UW campus.
CC grabbed its shortlived lead just 1:10 after intermission, when freshman midfielder
Brennan O'Connell snapped a scoreless deadlock with the first goal of her collegiate career. It was the Huskies, however, who seemed to use the goal to seize momentum in a contest that had been virtually even up to that point.
Senior midfielder Nikki Murray tied the game on a free kick from 25 yards out at 55:26, then set up sophomore Kelli Stewart's game winner with a well-placed corner kick at 60:05. Freshman forward Jessie Young added an insurance goal at 65:02 to cap the uprising.
The Huskies finished with a 14-7 advantage in overall shots, including an 8-3 edge after halftime, as well as a 7-1 advantage in corner kicks.
The Tigers dropped to 2-2 with the loss while Washington improved to 3-1.
